Medical Conditions ›Social Security Disabling Conditions
The Social Security Administration (SSA) awards Social Security Disability benefits based on the type of disabling condition the claimant is suffering from. These are conditions that affect an individuals ability to gain substantial employment. The SSA's impairment listing manual, also known as the "Blue Book," contains a list of these conditions. If you are suffering from one of these conditions, then you maybe eligible to receive Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI).
In addition to the disabling conditions, the SSA also has a list of 88 conditions that automatically qualify for disability benefits under the Compassionate Allowances program. The Compassionate Allowances program is intended to expedite the application process for those with severe medical conditions.
Listed below are the Disabling Conditions recognized by the SSA. Please click on name of the Disabling Condition for more information on the disease.
